Successful recanalization after stenting in acute basilar occlusion from vertebral V2 dissection: A telescoping stents technique with long term follow-up
Abstract
Basilar Artery Occlusion (BAO) is a devastating and challenging disease with a mortality and morbidity rateup to 90% and a severe residual deficit in more than 65% of survivors. Best treatmentstrategy for BAO combined with proximalvertebral stenosis or dissection (tandem occlusion) is not clear yet. We describe a case of acute stroke due to tandem occlusion of posterior circulation (acute V2 dissection plus BAO) treated by acute stent-assisted vertebro-basilar reconstruction (Telescoping StentsTechnique) with a long-term follow-up.
