RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SENTENCE TYPES STRUCTURE AND MATHEMATICAL"CLUSTERS" IN TEACHING TURKISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

Rapidly developing means of transportation and communication have reduced our world. It is necessary to learn foreign languages to exchange ideas, to develop commercial relations and to communicate in scientific, political, cultural and economic fields with the other countries. Due to its geopolitical position, the number of people who have gained importance in Turkey and therefore Turkish and who want to learn Turkish as a foreign language have increased. At the same time, migrations from the Middle East to Turkey have also increased the number of people who are in need of learning Turkish. Studies to be done about teaching Turkish as a foreign language gain importance. This study is a descriptive study. In the study, it was aimed to create a visual material for Turkish teaching by associating sentence structures with clusters which are the subjects of mathematics. For this purpose, firstly, the classification of the sentences according to their structure is discussed. There are many different views on the classification of the sentences according to their structure. In this study, there are four kinds of sentences according to structures; simple, unified, sequential and connected sentences. Each categorized structure is given by sample sentences and these examples are associated with the clusters and the types of sentences according to their structure are shown by cluster drawings. Thus, the difference on the basis of the structures has been transformed into a visual state by the cluster drawings. As a result, according to the Turkish structure of sentences are associated with clusters in math as a schematic organizer, are visualized and sentence structures are shown by cluster drawings. In this way, visual materials will be created which can be used as functional facilitators in teaching Turkish as both foreign language and mother tongue.
