Cardiovascular system pathology in children is an important problem of our time. Aim. The purpose of this article was to present the main results of investigations of the pathologists of Kharkiv school for studying morphological and functional features of the heart, pulmonary artery and aorta of fetuses and newborns from mothers with complicated pregnancy by arterial hypertension, intrauterine growth retardation and preeclampsia. Methods and results. The morphological and functional characteristics of the heart of fetus and newborn with intrauterine growth retardation, heart and aorta of fetus and newborn from mother with complicated pregnancy by arterial hypertension, aorta and pulmonary artery of fetus and newborn from mothers with complicated pregnancy by preeclampsia were studied by authors using histological, histochemical, immunohistochemical, morphometrical and statistical methods. It was established that in the cardiovascular system of the fetus and newborn from mothers with complicated pregnancy there are structural changes of various nature and degree of manifestation which create the preconditions for the formation of cardiovascular system pathology in later stages of ontogenesis and require the implementation of preventive measures.
