It is impossible to predict the effect that the restriction measures associated with COVID-19 contagion will have on social security due to the fact that these issues have not been properly investigated. The purpose of the study is to look into special features and potential consequences of social behavior during containment measures. For this purpose, it is necessary to consider intentions and real actions of the population, when everyone went on a panic-buying spree, through the analysis of propensity for panic-buying spree of medicines and personal protective equipment, to assess the awareness level of population in relation to the threat of coronavirus contagion, and to examine the level of concern in the society about coronavirus contagion. In the course of the study, a number of methods have been used, including sociometric survey, geo-analysis, regression analysis using the algorithms of stepwise regression and Barut. According to the survey, it has been found that on the one hand, almost 20 % of respondents are deeply concerned about the pandemic; on the other hand, respondents do not have propensity for panic-buying spree of food during containment measures. It has been established that a considerable share of citizens in Zhytomyr region experienced difficulties when buying fruit, vegetables, cereals and canned goods at the beginning of containment measures. About 60 % do not have sufficient provision of personal protective equipment and disinfectants. There is a mathematical rationalization for the fact that the level of anxiety in relation to coronavirus contagion is affected by the level of food adequacy. There is also a direct linear dependence between the level of anxiety and the age of respondents, i.e. the older the respondents, the higher level of anxiety.
