The paper attempts to delineate the studies on the history of Greek education that adopt gender as a research and history writing approach; as a theoretical subject of study, an analysis category or an interpretative framework. Specifically, the aim is to present the process of integrating the gender perspective in historical studies in education, the changing conceptualization of gender, the methodological approaches and topics of research interest, on the one hand, and the contribution of such studies to the development of History of Education as an academic field, and their position within the overall production of educational historiography, on the other. The study is based on historiography published since the 1970s. It follows the chronological course of the development of the relevant debate in educational historiography and weighs its observations and findings against Greek and international history of women and gender.
