The article aims to discuss the articulation between the spheres of culture and politics, in historical perspective, in the process of training workers in Brazil, with emphasis on the accumulation, legacies, limits and challenges of the training experience of workers, Brazilian countryside. The debate about the meaning of popular in the context of Brazilian popular culture in the light of the process of national formation is approached in the article as an expression of the contradictions of the social struggle in Brazil. The impact of the trauma of the 1964 dictatorship’s military-business coup as a regressive dimension to the working class political culture is analyzed as an impasse to be confronted politically and pedagogically in the formal and non-formal formative processes.
