INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study is to determine the average blood pressures and pulse rates of individuals who are referred to the intended dentistry faculty. METHODS: A total of 1598 volunteers from 18 years of age and older, who applied to the faculty of dentistry of Van Yüzüncü Yıl University between May-September 2017 were included in the study. The age, gender, occupation, height, weight, blood pressures and pulse information of the patients were recorded and the obtained data were analyzed statistically. RESULTS: Of the 1598 individuals participating in the study, 54.7% (n=874) were female and 45.3% (n=724) were male. The ages of the individuals ranged from 18 to 91 years with an average age of 37.24 +- 13.37 years. The systolic and diastolic blood pressures of the 18-35 age group were significantly lower than those of the 36-50, 51-65 and 66 and over age groups (p<0,01). Diastolic blood pressure values of male subjects were found to be statistically higher than female (p <0,05). Pulse values of male subjects were found statistically significantly higher than female (p <0,01). Systolic and diastolic blood pressure values of individuals with normal BMI (Body Mass Index) were significantly lower than those of overweight and obese individuals (p <0,01). DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: The blood pressure values of the individuals who applied to the faculty of dentistry are directly related to the age and body mass index. Male individuals have higher diastolic blood pressure and pulse rate values. Potential risks must be considered in situations requiring interventional procedures.
