Suicidal behavior in Brazilian higher education: an integrative review
Abstract
Epidemiological data reveals expressive increasement related to consumed suicide rates, as well as ideation and suicide attemption among the children and youth public, specially regard the individuals inserted within the academical context. However, the associated variables to the phenomenon are miscellaneous, explaning the necessity of a review upon what has been produced about the thematic, in order that interventions and more effective strategies can be elaborated aiming at the mental health promotion in the academic teaching. In this purport, has been performed a integrative literature review from the last 10 years, that approached the suicide behavior within the brazilian academical context, consulting the data bases: CAPES, BVS, PePSIC and Scielo, employing the descriptor “suicide attempts”, aiming to reach the biggest number of articles. It was possible to extract 4 articles that corresponded to the elegibility criteria, revealing that suicide has been studied from the exploratory and quantitative researches with health area undergraduates, ascertaing associated factors to the suicide behavior as of measurement instruments. Factors such as the stressful university environment, the use of psychoactive substances, mental disorders historic and the belonging to a phychosocial vulnerability group were associated to the suicide behavior within the students. Against the undermost production, are needed the studies that contemplate the further graduation, and pos-graduation, areas, besides the construction and verification related to the interventional programs efficiency that potentiate all the envolved ones mental health in this context.
