The study of classical musical compositions is an important part of the academic disciplines of musicology. The article raises the problem of correlation of a musical piece as an aesthetic category and as a subject of study in educational courses. A music piece exists only in the performance process; it lasts in time and can be realized in many variants, none of which can be taken as an invariant. The audio illustration offered to students is usually presented as a unique solution of the composer’s idea. The article examines the importance of performing interpretation in the study of musical works in musicology courses and its influence on the perception of the composer’s style. The article analyzes the role of mobile components of the musical text, which are subject to variability in the process of the evolution of the performing style and determine the modern perception and understanding of the author’s text.
