In this paper about Far from Medina by Assia Djebar, we shall see how the author revisits the early days of Islam. She resurrects the Prophet Muhammad, his companions and especially the women around him, basing herself on the texts of the great historians from the 8th to the 10th century. But the imagination of the author, her personality, her assumptions and the issues that are close to her heart are inserted in the text, giving the book an extra dimension that upgrades the role of women in early Islam and tries to restore its "original light", which had been too long overshadowed by the chroniclers of the Tradition.
