The self-concept is one of the most important aspects of the individual personality. The purpose of this study was to compare the self-concept of students in different fields of study in Ahvaz nursing and midwifery faculty. The present study was a descriptive epidemiological study. Hence, the research population was total students in Ahvaz nursing and midwifery faculty at Ahvaz University of Medical Sciences that 660 students with entrance features were completed questionnaires. The data gathering tool was comprised of two questionnaires: demographic questionnaire and Roger’s self-concept questionnaire that its standard was confirmed. Data were analyzed using descriptive and analytical statistics and SPSS 22 software too. Considering the data analysis, 69.1% of students were female and the mean of age was estimated 22.28 ± 3.5 years, and also 52% of students were nursing students that 40% of students had negative self-concept. Although, males showed better self-concept than females (P-value = 0.002). In comparison all participants, nursing students had better self-esteem (P - value = 0.014), as well as Postgraduate students had more positive self-concept than undergraduate students (P-value = 0.000). According to the results of this study, majority of students at Ahwaz nursing and midwifery faculty had a negative self-concept, therefore, it is recommended that the psychological problems of medical students facing high stress in their education and work should be rooted and evaluated then appropriate strategies and practical steps would be figured out.
