Vaccination against the Influenza virus has been shown in several studies to be a factor in preventing hospitalizations and deaths from respiratory diseases in the elderly population. The present study aimed to analyze the vaccination coverage against the Influenza virus in the elderly population of Alagoas, relating to the numbers of hospitalizations and deaths from respiratory diseases. To this end, information on vaccination coverage against Influenza and mortality and hospitalization indicators for pneumonia and influenza made available by the Information Systems of the Informatics Department of the Unified Health System were selected. As a result, it was found that, despite the vaccine intervention against Influenza to be pointed out by the consulted literature as the factor most related to the decrease in hospitalizations and deaths from respiratory diseases, when confronted with the numbers related to coverage by immunization and the rates of hospitalizations and deaths due to influenza or pneumonia, it cannot be verified reduction in indicators related to hospitalization and mortality from these respiratory diseases in the elderly, even though Alagoas has met the goal of vaccination against the Influenza virus advocated by the Ministry of Health for the population group of individuals aged 60 or over in 90% of the population. period in est udo.
