Abstract This multimedia didactic presentation was originally developed as a small group interactive refresher during a transition to clerkship course for third-year students at the start of the year. Videos depict real-time examples of ineffective and effective oral presentations. Lecture materials surrounding the videos provide opportunities for discussion with the students on best presentation practices. The videos are in WMV format and must be embedded into the PowerPoint presentation. It should be presented in a room with a computer projector, screen and enough space for students to sit in a discussion style seating arrangement. This tutorial was presented to 190 medical students in groups of 15 during the transition to clerkship course at the start of the third year prior to the first clinical rotation. All students who participated in the presentation skills workshop were required to complete an evaluation which asked them to respond to the following statement: “This module provided crucial information that prepared me for my role/responsibilities as an M3 student.” Over 70% of students agreed with the statement. Selected comments include: “This session should be expanded if possible-I think it's the most important in terms of how to feel comfortable starting rotations,“ “The video dissecting the poor presentation was effective in getting the point across of what should and shouldn't be done,” and “Very useful since I have to present every day.”
