The paper deals with the external and internal structure of listening in consecutive interpreting. The author focuses on three components of the internal structure: the motivation phase, that of analysis and synthesis and the controlling one. The specific character of listening in interpreting is apparent in each phase. The phases mentioned determine the structure of didactic goals. Taking into consideration the peculiarities of the internal structure components while setting didactic goals contributes to effective listening training of future interpreters. The external listening structure, including operations, listening actions and activity, is considered in connection with the didactic categories “skill” and “ability”. The author emphasizes the importance of liste­ning actions aimed at understanding the source text information and developing information-oriented listening skills of future interpreters.
