Compositing MXene with organic coordination frameworks (MOFs, COFs, and HOFs) for enhanced electrochemical performance
Abstract
As new organic framework materials, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), covalent-organic frameworks (COFs) and hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) are considered as advanced materials for the energy storage and conversion technologies. However, the limited structural stability and low electrical conductivity of these organic coordination frameworks hinder their practical electrochemical performance. Therefore, MXene with excellent physicochemical properties have been introduced to overcome these issues. This review provides a systematical overview of the synthesis methods of MXene/organic frameworks composites, including MOF/MXene, COF/MXene, and HOF/MXene. Furthermore, the applications of these composites in electrochemical energy storage (batteries, supercapacitors) and energy conversion (catalysis, sensors) are also thoroughly summarized. Finally, some challenges and breakthroughs are put forward for the enhanced electrochemical performance.
