Development and Validation of Cooking Skills Syllabus for the Teachers of Adult Girls with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
Abstract
Purpose: The present study focused on the need to develop a syllabus of cooking skills for the adult girls with IDDs, as it was observed that there is a lack of practical skills syllabus needed for the adult girls with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDDs) in Govt. sector schools in Punjab. Design/Methodology/Approach: The research was mixed method in nature and teachers and experts in special education were the population of the study. The researcher identified the need by reviewing and analyzing the present curriculum being implemented in all Govt. and Private Sector schools. On the basis of this analysis a cooking skills syllabus was designed, Developed and validated for the teachers and experts in Special education. The instrument for validation (questionnaire) was developed and pilot tested (Cronbach Alpha = .843). Findings: Results were analyzed using SPSS-16 and major Findings showed that syllabus was accepted and recommended to be implemented at national level as 19.51% responses Syllabus as excellent and 51% declared as good. Implications: This syllabus is seen to become as essential part of the curriculum as grown-up girls in the institutions of IDD.
