This article presents and comments upon extracts of Mémoires des réfugiés françois (1782-1799) (French Refugees’ Memoirs) by J.P Erman and P.C.F Reclam. In this book, famous at the end of the Aufklärung yet now largely forgotten, the two Berlin Huguenots pastors shed light on the importance of the part played by the refugees in tobacco culture, in the introduction of new vegetables, fruits, and ornamental flowers, and in the attempt to develop the culture of silkworms and mulberry bushes.
