Explanation of cognitive emotion regulation strategies according to family communication processes and perfectionism in adolescent girls

Aim: The aim of this study was to determine fit of study models in predicting positive and negative cognitive emotion regulation strategies based on the family communication processes and perfectionism dimensions in adolescent girls. Method: Research method was descriptive-correlational and statistic population consisted of all the second course high school girl student in Tehran city in 2015 with the quantity of 1,196,812 that through them 497 people through clustered multistage sampling were selected and completed cognitive emotion regulation by Garnefski, Kraaij & Spinhoven (2001), family processes by Samani (2008) and multidimensional perfectionism cognitions by Kaburi & Tanno (2004) questionnaires. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. Results: The effect of personal standards on positive cognitive emotion regulation was positive and significant (β=0.418, P0.001). The effect of over concern on positive and negative cognitive emotion regulation were respectively negative and significant (β=-0.193, P0.001) and positive and significant (β=0.567, P0.001). The effect of family processes on positive and negative cognitive emotion regulation were respectively positive and significant (β=0.321, P0.001) and negative and significant (β=-0.200, P0.001). Conclusion: Individuals with higher personal standards and individuals with suitable family communication use positive strategies and individuals with over concern use negative strategies for cognitive emotion regulation. So, it is recommended that for assumption positive emotion regulation strategies focus on positive perfectionism and family communication processes.
