This paper deals with archives that preserve different types of artists’ materialities and their relationships with creative processes in light of the genetic criticism assumptions. Initially, aspects of the archives are presented as process documents. Afterwards, case studies will be dealt based on the collections of Mário de Andrade (IEB-USP) and Otto Stupakoff (IMS), in order to understand what the collection reveals for the study of creative processes. Finally, the main aspects of archives are discussed, emphasizing the conflicts that involve their very existence and organization.
