Integrating technology into English learning in higher education: a bibliometric analysis
Abstract
Technology has been integrated into teaching and learning English as a foreign/second language since the 20th century. Studies have investigated the effects of various technological tools on language learning in higher education. However, reviews related to technology integration in English learning in higher education are far from sufficient and comprehensive. The current bibliometric study aims to determine the current status, most productive authors, affiliations and countries, and research trends by reviewing basic data, highly cited articles, top publication sources, coauthorship of authors and countries, keyword co-occurrence, and evolution of the topic using Bibliomagika, VOSviewer, and Bilioshiny. By reviewing 1677 articles, the results indicate that the integration of technology in English learning in higher education has experienced starting and developing stages and has been in a booming period. The dynamic nature of education has been greatly impacted by the rapid advancement and integration of technology, leading to a substantial revolution in the field of English teaching and learning. Nevertheless, in the course of this rapid advancement in technology, the significance of instructional methods remains a critical aspect that is still being meticulously investigated. The implications and limitations of the current study are also discussed in the conclusion section.
