This article analyses the contemporary evolution of the pro-independence movement in Catalonia, from marginalization to the development of a mass social movement. Through an approach of political sociology and using classical theories, it seeks to explain the main sociological logics of the radicalization of the pro-independence movement from 2009 until 2017. It also shows how the pro-independence camp, beyond classical political organizations, mainly constitutes a powerful social movement mobilizing a narrative, causal stories, as well as logics of mobilization, an activist network of actors and a variety of « collective action repertoires ». Thus, the article invites to think of political change dynamics in Catalonia through the lens of social evolutions. Catalonia, nationalism, pro-independence, social movement
