Women in Politics: Challenges and Perspectives

Abstract

The teaching case presents the life and political trajectory of Maria Regina Braga who is the only councilwoman in the city of Ouro Preto/MG. In this case, Regina remembers the difficulties faced to keep herself in politics for five consecutive mandates and reports about her future aspirations. Data were collected through two interviews, on Regina’s Facebook and on the City Council of Ouro Preto website. The case proposes that the students analyze the situation of women in politics, at the same time that provides a reflection about the challenges and future perspectives.
