This article examines the spread of the Chinese barefoot doctor model and its adaptation in Colombia. Benefiting from a paradigm shift in global health policies starting in the late 1960s, as well as networks of information and people inspired by Maoism, these barefoot doctors strengthened international leftist solidarity, provided healthcare to rural communities, and contributed to the politicization of Colombian peasants, a process that extended until the end of the Cold War.
