The paper analyzes tourism as a political scene. It questions the negotiation of national and subnational « identities », within the frame of the Nation-State, as well as socially legitimized and undervalued « identities ». Drawing on case studies in Morocco, it highlights the interest of mobilizing the field of postcolonial studies together with subaltern studies, to understand the power relations involved, deconstruct the post-colonial logics governing the tourist production of « identities » and give high attention to the « identities » as they are claimed by marginalized social groups.
