Perawatan Orthodontik Pada Pasien Celah Bibir dan Langit-langit
Abstract
THe management of orthodontic treatment on cleft lip and cleft palate patients is the challenge for orthodontists. The appropriate age to start the treatment for these patients is remained contradictory amongst experts from various disciplines. In general, orthodontic treatment is provided to prepare for the teeth and jaw for orthognathic surgery to achieve an optimal function and aesthetic. It is often found that patients with cleft lip and cleft palate have underdeveloped of the maxilla in the antero-posterior as well as in transverse direction. However, the orthodontic treatment for these patients will initially focus on the expansion of the maxilla in the transverse direction which will also affect the antero-posterior abnormality. Various expansion devices are available to correct the needs to be considered in treatment the cleft lip and palate patient is the decision whether to open or close the cleft region.
