Management of occupational hazards through Petri nets in the consultation area of burn patients

Introduction: burn injuries are one of the most frequent pathologies in emergency rooms, the variety of trauma most of the times leaves the patient with severe and permanent sequelae. Objective: to manage the occupational risks in the consultation area of burn patients during the outpatient care in a hospital entity. Method: an approach consisting of four phases to achieve the management of occupational risks was used, which methodological design followed the logic of risk identification, assessment and control based on Petri nets; using a tool for representing the activities that were relevant to the identification of occupational risks and a risk matrix for effective evaluation. In addition, tools to collect information such as the review of documents, historical data, direct observation and the criteria of experts were applied. Results: the identification of the main risks in the activities of the consultation area of burn patients was represented by Petri red, as well as the greater degree of significance, and the hierarchy of risks according to their probability of occurrence along with severity, determining the level of priority. Conclusion: risks of high priority were given by poor lighting conditions in places where the activity was carried out; where the plateaus and walls which are chipped and cracked increased the exposure to biological agents.
