Abstract
More and more attention is being paid today to the system of church administration at different times of the Russian Church existence. A striking example of this is the monograph by A. V. Matison, dedicated to the secular episcopal officials of the Tver Bishop’s House of the last quarter of the 17th–18th centuries. The research is performed at a high scientific level; the author reveals features of the church service of various categories of serving people, while reconstructing the history of their families. The book will be useful not only for those interested in history of the Russian Orthodox Church and diocesan administration, but also for genealogists and local historians, as well as for specialists in the history of Tver diocese and that of social estates in Russia.
