In order to enable titanium alloys to cope with the service environment of complex working conditions, the argon arc cladding technology has been currently used to modify the surface of titanium alloys to prepare particle reinforced titanium-based composite coatings with dispersion distribution, strong adhesion and excellent performance. Herein, the types of reinforcing particles were introduced briefly, and the effects of different reinforcing particles on the multiphase composite coatings were compared. Moreover, the influence of argon arc cladding process parameters on the composition and distribution of coating reinforcement particles was analyzed, and it was proposed that the high entropy, amorphous, nanocrystalline coatings and simulation tests to explore process parameters were the future development trends.
