The 5 March 2010, the Parliament of Republic of Moldova instituted the Commemorative Cross of the World War Two (1939-1945). This medal will be conferred to all the participants (military and civilians) of the World War Two, as of Red Army as of Romanian one. The concept of Commemorative Cross was preliminary also approved by the National Commission for Heraldry. The new medal imitates the form of the Romanian Medal “Commemorative Cross of the 1916-1919 War” (a “Byzantine” cross with the limbs ended in rhombs), but its color is grey. In the cross centre there was a round medallion with the composition of central shield of the Republic of Moldova’s coat of arms. The reverse has the date “1939/ 1945” written on. The ribbon is in seven black and white stripes, as a symbol of occidental and traditional mourning.
