The objective of this article is to analyze a set of dimensions of the musical culture of the 19th century, product of the approach of the press of the period. For this, the work is divided into two instances. The first theoretical-methodological, gives an account of the potential that the periodic press has to discuss ways of enunciating and understanding artistic practices. In the second part, problematic nodes are displayed whose delimitation and analysis is based on the Buenos Aires press: practices of taste and hobby, circulation of knowledge, gender representations of women musicians and the conformation of artistic circuits and scenarios. In the conclusions, the route taken is systematized and a series of new questions about artistic culture are proposed.
