The article aims to a global overview on tourism research in Brazil, limited to a short period, from 2005 to 2007 and focusing only in doctoral theses registered at Capes Data Base. Theses were classified after their abstracts and clustered into Jafari´s Platforms (Jafari, 1994). Systemic, phenomenological and “beyond phenomena” approach were also identified. As a result the author confirmed that tourism research is carried out mostly by other disciplines and that most theses belong to the Knowledge-based Platform, with links with Advocacy , Cautionary and Adaptancy Platforms. The beginnings of a new trend were also identified, going beyond tourism facts and understanding tourism as phenomenon which suggests either the development of a new dimension in Knowledge-based Platform or the development of a new Platform, that of Tourism Epistemology.
