Un voyage infini : autour de la traduction et de la réception d'Aimé Césaire au Japon

Abstract

The translation of Aimé Césaire's works into Japanese began in the 1950s and 1960s. The reception of the poet is marked by the influence of Jean-Paul Sartre and the interest of the Japanese in Africa. To these two trends we can add, since the 1990s, the third intellectual movement concerning créolité. Looking at these three routes of Aimé Césaire's reception in Japan, we can say that the critical spirit of the Martinican poet has allowed Japanese readers to better understand their history in a broader context of the crossing of cultures.
