The paper analyzes conditions and main reasons for destruction of main gear and wheel reduction gear of driving axles in MAZ automobile. A mathematical model of stress of bevel drive teeth has been developed; the reasonability of improving their thermal and chemical-thermal treatment has been proven. The research proposes to replace 20XH3A steel by 60 ПП volumetric-surface hardened steel to be used in bevel gear wheels.
