Cleopatra, or Ariadne Return to a surpassed argument

Abstract

The iconography of the Hellenistic statue called Sleeping Ariadne, known throw several Roman copies, has been interpreted in various ways from the Renaissance till today. We shall re-examine this set of problems in the context of the ideological evolution.
