THE SPIRIT OF YESEVÎ ON THE THRESHOLD OF INNOVATİON: DURALİ YILMAZ
Abstract
Durali Yılmaz is a versatile artist who produces literary works in addition to his academic studies. His primary focus lies in novels and stories. He has crafted all his works within a traditional framework, utilizing Islamic discourse and themes from Turkish culture. While acknowledging the absence of a comprehensive Turkish novel that asserts itself in all its facets, Durali Yılmaz recognizes the existence of a Turkish story based on its historical tradition. This perspective has served as a source of confidence in his storytelling. In his initial stories, influenced by his era, Durali Yılmaz constructed individual and societal narratives featuring introverted, passive characters. As he matured, he increasingly approached societal themes. Technically, he is an experimenter in his storytelling, driven by a passion for experimentation that leads him to new pursuits. Post-2000, his stories begin to approach genres like essays, memoirs, and conversations. His story collection titled "Köprüler Kurmak Sonsuza" (Building Bridges to Infinity), published in 2022, consists of stories exploring these genres. The collection commences with two previously unpublished stories hinting at the author's intention to explore a new poetic path within the narrative genre. He organizes the content of the work in a thematic sequence, illuminating the innovative concept he envisions for the story. The thematic concentration in this collection accentuates a shift from focusing on situation and event to contemplation. Through a text analysis method in this research, based on Durali Yılmaz's biography, the aim was to identify the innovation he intended to bring to the narrative genre. The research concludes that Durali Yılmaz has established a reformist storytelling approach in the narrative genre, centered on generating thoughtful production.
