Civil engineers are involved in building and maintaining a built environment that meets the sustainable development requirements. This environment is interdisciplinary in its nature, as it results from an interaction between different actors (architects, city planners, authorities, clients, civil engineers). Professional formation and training of engineers is a result of the didactic and technical efforts, which later will be reflected in the way constructions are being designed and built, so that engineers are not considered simple workers. Thus, when discussing professional formation and training of engineers, one should debate the necessary steps they have to take in their relationship with other disciplines. Practicing civil engineering in seismic risk areas in Romania adds specific requirements.
