This article aims to shed light on a recent moment in Quebec’s economic history, namely the advent of a new economy between the early 1980s and the early 2000s. To this end, we will focus on the career of Camille Limoges, a historian of science and technology who also held key positions in public administration. Both through his writings and his involvement in public administration, Limoges played a decisive role in Quebec’s research policies over a period of 20 years. First, we will clarify the concept of “new economy” by focusing on its original context of emergence in the United States. Then, we will focus on the main ideas contained in a book co-authored by Limoges, The New Production of Knowledge. Finally, we will show the influence of the ideas of this book in relation to the implementation of an innovation policy in Quebec.
