VIRTUAL MASKS: AN IN-DEPTH STUDY OF FAKE ACCOUNT USAGE IN ARMENIA
Abstract
In the present generation, social networking sites have become increasingly popular, people’s social lives have become more associated with these sites. They use it to keep in touch with each other, share news, organize events, and even run their own e-business. On the other hand, the prevalence of fake accounts on digital platforms poses a multifaceted challenge in contemporary societies. Researchers have started to investigate efficient techniques to detect abnormal activities and virtual masks relying on account features and classification algorithms. This study delves into the landscape of virtual mask usage in Armenia, aiming to uncover the motivations behind their creation and the activities they engage in. Through quantitative analysis and qualitative insights, this research sheds light on the complex dynamics of virtual identity manipulation and its implications for Armenian society. The motivations for using virtual masks in online environments encompass a diverse range of socio psychological factors, including social interaction, self-presentation, privacy concerns, and political expression. By elucidating these motivations and their underlying mechanisms, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of online behavior and its implications for individuals and society at large.
