Key Clinical Message Although conventional microbiology cultures may be negative, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) can effectively identify both typical and atypical microorganisms. With careful interpretation, PCR could become the gold‐standard diagnostic test for culture‐negative bacterial pericarditis.
