MAIN TYPES OF ABBREVIATIONS IN CHINESE

Abstract

This article describes the main types of abbreviations in Chinese, particularities of their formation and the tendency of their usage. The difference of informal conversation and written speech in Chinese and the similar differences in the origin of Chinese are introduced in the article. The influence of necessity to abbreviate words in speech is described in the article. The purpose of the article is to view the main types of abbreviation, to describe them and to deduce the methods of its formation. The examples of abbreviations used in modern Chinese in different situations of communication are the material of the investigation. Works of such scientists as Li Xiaoge, D.N. Ushakova, N.Yu. Shvedova and others are theoretical foundation of the article. Methodology. The method of investigation is the continuous sampling method. Scientific novelty of the article is that this theme of Chinese abbreviations is poorly known. Practical implications. The practical significance of the article is that this material can be used in the classes of written and oral translation of the Chinese language and also in-depth study of modern Chinese language. Results. In the conclusion not only general regularity of abbreviation but specific ways of formation of apocopic words in the Chinese language are identified.
