The objective of this work is to promote scientific literacy in Adult and Youth Education through activities guided by the investigative methodology of the “Mão na Massa” [“Hands-On”] project. For this purpose, the activities were related to the buoyancy of objects, which involves concepts such as density, pressure, contact surface, among others. For data analysis, the Scientific Literacy indicators, proposed by Sasseron and Carvalho, were used as theoretical reference. We aim to identify in the students’ speech and drawings evidence of the use of such indicators, and then to verify whether the scientific literacy was favored by the proposition. The activities were well received by students and the results pointed to the need of improvement in the quality of the Science Education practiced in this teaching modality.
