The funeral operates a topological coincidence between the dead and his body. The staging of funerary ritual leads to one being confused with the other. The burial makes a topological coincidence in the second degree; the place of the dead being thus identified with the tomb which contains the body. The Latin law relating to the tomb bears the traces of these coincidences in the process of legal institution of the tomb and by prohibiting any action that might put an end to them.
