Fronteira e organização espacial luso-espanhola na região do Rio da Prata (séc. XVIII)

Abstract

The the main objetive attributed this paper is to discuss border demarcations in the Río de la Prata region in the 18th century. The proposal becomes a perspective as an interpretative scheme - and, we think, a necessary one - for understanding fundamental events in the transition from the 18th to the 19th century in this territory. As a methodology, it is qualitative in nature, based on specialized historiography on the subject, in dialogue with central points of geographical knowledge itself. Among the results, it is possible to highlight that the invasion of the Banda Oriental of Uruguay in 1811 was directly linked not only to more abstract political and economic issues, but to the very organization of space and borders in the region, in an interrelationship.
