Insufficient mechanical stability of transformer winding is the leading cause of equipment accidents. Scientific evaluation of its mechanical stability is of positive significance for reducing equipment accidents and improving maintenance pertinence. This paper analyzes the inherent relationship between the mechanical stability of the transformer and the vibration in operation. Moreover, it proposes a method for determining the installation position of the vibration sensor and establishes an index evaluation system with frequency complexity of the vibration signal, vibration stability, energy similarity, and vibration correlation as the characteristic values. Finally, the paper verifies the method by instancing the faulty transformers. The results show that the live-wire mechanical stability detection method of transformer windings based on the principle of vibration can better detect winding deformation.
