A LAMENT OF CYPRUS REGION: “ARAB ALİ” AND VARIATIONS

Abstract

This article is about the research of the lament text lamented for Arap Ali who was killed in 1943 in Famagusta, Cyprus by English soldiers. This lament was sung among people so many times that we encounter (can see) its different variations in Kerkük and Anatolia. As a matter of fact the story, the contrastive analyis and similarity and difference of these variants have been evaluated. Besides interpretation, research and evaluation inthe frame of literature and language evaluation, local folkloric characteristics have been tried to make firm.
