The relation between engineering and science
Abstract
Starting from the definition of science it is shown how it is a central fundament of modern engineering. However, science is only one of its components, because long before science was incorporated to engineering this profession already existed as a human endeavour. It is indicated that engineering should not bow to science because the problems it faces and its methods to solve them are of a very different nature. Finally, it is stated that young engineers should not forget the importance of technical and empirical knowledge in the practice of their profession.
