CONSIDERAȚII GEOPOLITICE ALE IERUSALIMULUI
Abstract
Jerusalem has always been a core concept for the three main Abrahamic religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Starting from United States of America’s President Donald Trump’s declaration of officially recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, the current paper thoroughly describes Jerusalem’s historical and religious context. Considering the current geopolitical dynamics of the Middle East, I seek to present the perspectives, symbolism, and implications of and for the main actors that have been identified — state and non-state. While the status of Jerusalem is a sensitive matter, on the Grand Chessboard of the Middle East, for some, the ascension of Iran’s influence and power might prove to be the actual end-game.
