Initially considered a flu, in Brazil, the spread of COVID-19 has taken a global dimension. From the advance and seriousness of the disease, the municipal, state, and federal governments of Brazil issued norms for the long-stay institutions for the elderly (ILPIs) with the objective of offering protection to those sheltered in those entities. The concern with the elderly was due to the fact that most of them already suffered from chronic diseases and were vulnerable to contagion. In this view, this study was proposed with the objective of analyzing the actions of Brazilian institutions that shelter the elderly, regarding the protection against SARS-CoV-2 virus contagion and the well-being of the elderly during the pandemic period. The study used qualitative methodological procedures with exploratory characteristics. A semi-structured questionnaire was used as a research instrument, sent via WhatsApp to several homes for the aged in four of the five Brazilian regions; however, only five institutions volunteered to answer it, in Goiás, Rondônia and Brasília. The institutions that participated answered the questions in audio form. As a result, it was found the implementation of safety protocols and awareness of the elderly and employees about the care to be followed in order to avoid contamination. Internal actions were also implemented to minimize the feeling of loneliness the elderly felt due to the social distancing and suspension of visits.
