The modernity brings with it the fundamental conditions to the birth of the novel. It has been denounced of crises of his historical context. The breakdown elements are appointed by the young Lukcs at The theory of novel, which compares the form in antiquity and in the modernity. Marthe Robert in her work Origins of the novel analyzes literary works focusing on fairy tales and novel to investigate the origins of the fantasies underlying narratives. Nevertheless, the author highlights some elements that corroborate the crisis of modernity printed mainly in the first novels. This paper proposes an approximation of the considerations of the two authors. Despite the methodological differences, Lukcs and Robert can, in a complementary way, contribute to the understanding of the relationship between novel and modernity.
