Are we there yet? The Disney Princesses’ journeys and gender representation

Abstract

Disney princesses have evolved in recent years, as Disney seems to have re-appropriated Campbell’s monomyth of the hero’s journey for heroines. The paper discusses the narratives of Disney’s adapted or original fairytales and links the narratives to related issues with regard to gender representations, i.e. class, family relations, sexuality, drawing the characters and gender performativity
